Following the National Veterans Day Observance at Arlington National Cemetery, Marilyn Lucas and her husband Ron DeFries visit the graves of her mother and her father, Arlington National Cemetery, Nov. 11, 2018. Lucas and DeFries make the journey from Chicago each year for Veterans Day. Her father, U.S. Army Col. Charles J. Lucas, Senior, was a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge, captured on Christmas Eve; and her mother, Mary Jane Lucas, served in the Women’s Army and Auxiliary Corps.
