Summary

Significance: Designed by Ithiel Town from a design supplied by Architect Asher Benjamin of Boston. It is presumed to be inspired by James Gibbs' design for St. Martins in the Fields Church in London, England. Through thoughtful restoration and renewal it remains almost intact. It may be called the most prominent public building in New Haven from the time of its construction to the present.
