William James Glackens is an American painter and draftsman. Born March 13, 1870, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1895 travel to Europe; in Paris captured the paintings of Monet, which originated in his early work. In 1896 he returned to New York, and in 1906 became a member of the National Academy of Design. In 1917 he was elected chairman of the "Society of Independent Artists".
