The Britannia, the three deck ship on the left, had been the cadet training ship at Dartmouth from 1864 - 1869. Around 1865, the number of cadets was too large for just one ship so the Hindustan, the two deck ship on the right, arrived and was connected to Britannia by a covered walkway.
