Shu Hua, Head of the Ministry of Punishment, coordinated with other ministries to review and edit Wen xing tiao li (Questions about punishment guidelines), which resulted in this text, which was presented to the Emperor.

六冊二函. Six volumes in two cases.
九行二十字 小字雙行同. Nine lines, with twenty characters per line; small characters in paired lines of twenty characters per line.
明舒化等校。按間刑條例纂定於弘治十三年，重修於嘉靖二十九年，再修於嘉靖三十四年，共三百八十五條。萬曆初刑部會同各部又重新校定，至舒化官邢部尚書時成書，故由化領銜進呈。此本照舊者一百一十九條，增改删併者又一百九十一條，各附於律文之後。律文註解，僅删取舊說一二，雙行刻於律文之內，蓋此本彙刻「律」與「例」，不大重視註解也。劉若愚內板經書紀略，有「大明律二本，一百七葉」，當是不附條例之本。此本沈家本有跋，載寄簃文存卷七。御製序 洪武三十年 (1397)，舒化等題稿 萬曆十三年 (1585)，又進書表 萬曆十三年 (1585).
