Summary

Hutton sends May a set of resolutions concerning the Fugitive Slave Law. He tells May that he is sorry to hear that the American Unitarian Association has declined to express an opinion on the matter. Hutton discusses the merits of the "voluntary principle" in church affairs as well as the motives of laymen and clergy in the anti-slavery struggle. He advocates nullification of the Fugitive Slave Law.
