The Geological Commission of the Empire of Brazil was a government agency established in 1876 by Emperor Pedro II of Brazil during the period of the Brazilian Empire. The main goal of the commission was to survey and map the geology of Brazil. The commission was initially led by German geologist Hermann von Ihering.
