Alaska free images - Chilkoot Trail
Summary
Bridge over the Taiya River
The rugged trail was improved with bridges and sections of corduroy road in 1897, when the Gold Stampede brought tens of thousands of prospectors to the region. Entrepreneurs recouped their development efforts by charging tolls along the way.
Replacement bridges built during the past three decades are non-contributing features to the historic landscape.
