"Le Charivari" was a French newspaper that was published from 1832 to 1937. It was known for its satirical and humorous content, and featured caricatures, jokes, and political commentary. The newspaper was known for its irreverent tone and its willingness to challenge the authorities and speak truth to power. It was very popular in its time.

Honore Daumier (1808–1879) master of French political caricature and engraving, famous painter and sculptor of the XIX century. Having witnessed two revolutions in France, Honore Daumier sided with the common people. His works are an example of critical realism. The artist bitterly denounced and ridiculed officials and bourgeois, bringing to the fore workers, artisans, and laundresses. Daumier left a rich legacy: more than 4 thousand lithographs, 900 graphic drawings, about 700 paintings, and 60 sculptural compositions.
