Carlo Brogi began his career as an apprentice in a photographic studio in Florence. In 1864 he opened his own studio in Pistoia, specialising in portrait photography. He later expanded his business to include landscape and architectural photography. Brogi's work is characterised by his attention to detail and composition. He often used large format cameras and long exposure times to capture the intricate details of his subjects. His photographs of Florence and other Tuscan cities are particularly notable for their ability to capture the beauty and grandeur of these historic places. In addition to his commercial work, Brogi also documented important events and people of his time. He photographed the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the visit of King Umberto I to Florence in 1896. Brogi continued to work as a photographer until his death in Florence on 14 February 1925. Today, his photographs are held in collections around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
