Summary
A view of the Mars bringing l'Hercule out of the Passage du Raz, with the Jason in the background, 21 April 1798. Wars of the French Revolution (1792-1802): War of the Second Coalition (1798-1802).
After a fierce duel between the two ships, the French had suffered two hundred and fifty killed and wounded and surrendered to the British, under the command of Alexander Hood who was killed during the action. The French ship was taken into the British Navy.
