Bodleian Libraries, Horae in laudem beatissimae virginis Mariae, ad usum Romanum
Summary
Backless binding. French (Lyons?), mid 16th century. Brown calfskin with black and white onlays of small floral tools and interlacings. On the front cover IENON, on the back BOYLEAW. An example of a binder's showpiece: instead of a recognisable spine, the binder has instead fashioned a gilt-edged trench, disguising the sewing structure that holds the book together.
