(Jul. 24, 2006) Beverly Cross holds the American flag and Distinguished Flying Cross presented to her husband posthumously during a ceremony at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. Cross was a turret gunner aboard a TBF Avenger with VT-14 aboard USS Wasp (CVA 18). He was shot down over the Straits of Formosa on Oct. 13, 1944 and was held as a prisoner of war by the Japanese for 14 months. He died at the age of 65 in 1990.
