Bessarion’s seal - Public domain dedication image

Cardinal Bessarion’s seals at the time of his legation at Bologna. The bigger seal shows the Blessed Virgin (middle) under a baldachin with an angel (left) and John the Baptist (right). The smaller seal shows Bessarion’s coat of arms; the two arms holding the cross symbolize the Western and the Eastern Church. The seals are in the Archivio di Stato di Reggio Emilia at Reggio Emilia.
