Basel, Universitätsbibliothek, B I 7, f. 259r – Peter Lombard, Commentary on the Psalms

This 13th century manuscript with Peter Lombards’ commentary on the Psalms, previously owned by Petrus Medicus, came to the Carthusian Monastery of Basel in the 15th century. The codex is organized in three columns, although the outermost column closest to the margin remains empty. The two columns of text are in turn again partly divided in half and give the biblical text in the left half and the commentary in the right half, in lines of half the height. Figure initials in delicate French style correspond to the division of the Psalter into eight liturgical sections. The blank area below the text contains nearly unreadable notes perhaps in pencil, which may be a further commentary.
Deutsch: Die im 13. Jahrhundert entstandene Handschrift mit dem Psalmenkommentar des Petrus Lombardus gelangte im 15. Jahrhundert aus dem Besitz eines Petrus Medicus in die Basler Kartause. Der Codex ist dreispaltig angelegt, wobei die äusserste Spalte gegen den Rand hin leer bleibt. Die beiden beschriebenen Spalten sind partiell nochmals halbiert und bieten in der linken Hälfte den Bibeltext, in der rechten in halb so hohen Zeilen den Kommentar. Figürliche Initialen in zierlicher, französischer Arbeit entsprechen der Aufteilung des Psalters in acht liturgische Abschnitte. Unterhalb des beschriebenen Schriftraumes finden sich nahezu unleserliche bleistiftartige Notizen, bei denen es sich möglicherweise um einen weiteren Kommentar handelt.
Français : Ce manuscrit du XIIIème siècle, contenant le commentaire sur les Psaumes de Pierre Lombard, rejoignit la chartreuse de Bâle par l’intermédiaire de son précédent propriétaire, Petrus Medicus. Le codex est disposé en trois colonnes, bien que la colonne extérieure près de la marge reste vide. Les deux colonnes avec le texte sont elles-mêmes partiellement divisées en deux, avec, dans la moitié gauche, le texte de la Bible, et dans la moitié droite, le commentaire, en lignes de la moitié de la hauteur du texte biblique. Les initiales figurées, de style français très raffiné, correspondent à la division du psautier en huit sections liturgiques. Dans la partie inférieure sans écriture, figurent des annotations presque illisibles, écrites avec une sorte de crayon à papier, peut-être un commentaire ultérieur.
Italiano: Questo manoscritto del XIII secolo contenente il Commento ai salmi di Pietro Lombardo, giunse alla certosa di Basilea dal precedente possessore, Petrus Medicus. Il codice è organizzato in tre colonne, nonostante la colonna esterna verso il margine rimanga vuota. Le due colonne con il testo sono parzialmente a loro volta suddivise a metà e offrono nella metà sinistra il testo della Bibbia, nella metà destra, in righe di metà altezza, il commento. Le iniziali figurate, in stile francese molto fine, si trovano in corrispondenza della divisione del salterio in otto sezioni liturgiche. Nella parte inferiore, priva di scrittura, si trovano delle annotazioni quasi illeggibili tracciate con una sorta di matita, forse un ulteriore commento.
