Bangården vid Malmö station. Malmö Central station. Från 1856 till 1864 hade södra stambanan öppnats i etapper. Stambanan från Malmö till Lund öppnades för trafik 1856-12-01. Första stationshuset i sten med banhall byggdes 1855-56 av en okänd dansk arkitekt, möjligen C.F.Rasmussen. Byggnaden förstördes till stor del redan tio år senare, den 14 december 1866, vid en anlagd brand. 1878 färdigställdes en stor utvidgning av spårsystemet, stallcirkel tillkom, reparationsverkstaden och godsmagasinet utvidgades. Anslutning av enskilda järnvägar till Statsbanans egen växande trafik. Det nya stationshuset och banhallen blev färdiga 1981. Arkitekt var A W Edelsvärd. Stationshus är K-märkt 1986. Dubbelspår mellan Malmö och Arlöv öppnades för allmän trafik 1896. För att följa efter trafikens utveckling har stationen genomgått flera utvidgningar och moderniseringar. Stationen kallas Malmö Central från 1926-05-15. Fick eldrift 1933.

Watt's ten-horsepower engines enabled a wide range of manufacturing machinery to be powered. The engines could be sited anywhere that water and coal or wood fuel could be obtained. By 1883, engines that could provide 10,000 hp had become feasible. The steam engine was one of the most important technologies of the Industrial Revolution.
