Summary
Aviation in Britain Before the First World War- the work of Samuel Franklin Cody in Airship, Kite and Aircraft Aeronautics 1903 - 1913
A powered kite, designed and constructed by S F Cody, in a hangar entrance, probably at the British Army Balloon Factory in Farnborough. The kite was fitted with elevators, rudder, undercarriage and a light weight 3 cylinder 12hp engine. It flew without a pilot, initially tethered to a cable and then in free flight, and was the first powered aircraft to fly in Britain.
