ASV Mk II left front receiver antenna on Consolidated Canso

description

Summary

Close-up image of the left-hand receiver antenna array for the ASV Mk. II radar installed on a Royal Canadian Air Force Consolidated Canso (PYB) aircraft.
Note that the antenna is canted outward from the aircraft fuselage, making it most sensitive in the line about 15 degrees off to the left of the aircraft nose. This was paired with a second antenna on the far side of the aircraft, canted to the right. When the signals received on both are displayed, the signal closer to the centreline, or "line-of-shoot", of the antennas will be stronger, indicating which direction to turn to approach the target.

The transmitter antenna is not visible, it is located on top of the aircraft, just out of the view in this image. The ladder-like object above the antenna is not identified.
