Arthur Edmund Grimshaw - The Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne

description

Summary

A man is pushing a barrow across tramlines on the Quayside in Newcastle in this tiny picture. The outline of a tram is visible behind. Yellow light shines from the shops, while the silvery light of the moon is reflected from the wet quayside. The lights of the Swing Bridge reflect from the waters of the River Tyne. On the lower level of the High Level Bridge, small lights shine through the misty air from the oil lamps of hansom cabs. Arthur Grimshaw was one of a family of Leeds artists, who specialised in night time scenes painted in various cities.

Set of images depicting various harbors, ports, and piers together with ships, fishing and sailing boats, and all types of haven-like places and views. All large image sets on Picryl.com are made in two steps: First, we picked a set to train AI vision to recognize the feature, and after that, we ran all 25M+ images in our database through an image recognition machine. As usual, all media in the collection belong to the public domain. There is no limitation on the dataset usage - educational, scientific, or commercial.
