Salmon of Ripple, a monk of Northboume Monaster)7 aboutthe tenth year of Edward III., made considerable improve-ments and additions to the place, and more particularly builtthe chapel. The monastery was dissolved in the thirtiethyear of Henry VIII., when it reverted to the Crown. In histhirty-first year the King granted it to Archbishop Cranmerin exchange, and it remained in the possession of the See ofCanterbury till Archbishop Parker, in the reign of QueenElizabeth, reconveyed it to the Crown in exchange. TheQueen almost immediately after conveyed it to EdwardSaunders, where tradition assumes that he resided. ThisSaunders married Anne, only daughter of Thomas and Eliza-beth Lewin. His mothers apparent coheir Thomas,, inPhilipots Visitation, is described as famulus Dominse Eliz.antequain fuit regina Anglise, his wife being uxor MilonisPendrath de Northboume nutrix Reginse Elizabeths.
