Arc de triomphe du Carrousel, 1831
Summary
Similar to its larger counterpart in the eighth arrondissement, the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel was built between 1806 and 1808 in an attempt to commemorate Napoléon's army. Modeled after its Roman precedent, the Arch of Septimus Severus, the 45 foot tall Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel embellished the entrance to the Palais des Tuileries, and cost nearly 1,400,000 francs to build.
