Antoniazzo Romano (1430–1510) was an Italian Early Renaissance painter, the leading figure of the Roman school during the 15th century. The first mention of independent work dates back to 1464 when he painted the chapel of Cardinal Vissarion in the Church of the Holy Apostles. The work was completed in 1467. In 1466 he took part in the painting of the Palazzo San Marco (now Palazzo di Venezia). In 1475-1480 he painted the altar and panels with images of the Mother of God, whose cult flourished under Pope Sixtus IV.
