Summary
Tuesday, April 3, the Pearl, belonging to the Queensland Government, arrived at Port Moresby, with Mr. H. M. Chester, police magistrate from Thursday Island, on board. At 10 o'clock the next morning Mr. Chester formally annexed New Guinea, by reading a proclamation and hoisting the Union Jack
