Empty glumes linear, long plumose-ciliate; flow- ing glume narrow, smooth, 2-cleft, the divisions prolonged into slender awns, the dorsal awn arising from above the middle, more rigid, longer, subgeniculate. Palea hyaline, 2-keeled. Stamens 3. Styles short, distinct; stigmas plumose. Grain narrow, free within the slightly rigid fruiting glume. A low annual with flat leaves and a long-exerted, ovoid, or oblong, solitary, densely flow- ered, and woolly panicles. Species 1, Southern Europe. Cultivated as an ornamental and for dry bou- quets.
