Significance: Tuscaloosa's first skyscraper, built on technology established in Chicago. / Tuscaloosa's antebellum courthouse gave way to construction of the city's first skyscraper in 1909. The classically-styled tower rose seven stories and was topped by a roof-top garden and towering electric sign which read "Try Tuscaloosa."
