Alabaster alabastron (perfume vase), Cyprus
Summary
The alabastron is particularly large in size. The two vertical lugs are pierced. The neck is short, with a slightly thickened lip.
Archaic or Classical
The alabastron is a pear-shaped or elongated cylindrical vessel with a rounded bottom. Unlike the rhyton, the alabastron can stand upright. Alabastrons were used to store aromatic substances and liquids, mostly by women. Men used aribastrons in similar cases.
