Air-Traffic Controller 1st Class Kerry Mannon, a native of Gore, Okla., monitors an air-traffic control radar with Air-Traffic Controller 2nd Class Jason Stoddard, from Jamestown, N.Y., aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is on a scheduled deployment with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit to promote peace and freedom of the seas by providing deterrence, humanitarian aid and disaster relief while supporting the Navy's maritime strategy in the U.S. 7th and 5th Fleet areas of responsibility.
