Afghan citizens parade around a soccer stadium near the district center during the Marjah Day celebration here, Dec. 23. Several hundred district residents gathered to view a demonstration by Afghan National Security Forces and speeches from district officials, including District Governor Abdul Mutalib who proclaimed, "Today is the day we captured Marjah from the Taliban." Due to its progress in security, governance and infrastructure development, coalition forces will soon transition security responsibility of Marjah to Afghan security forces and the district government.
