as 3,000 to 4,000 c. c. of urine, while some contracted bladders havea capacity of no more than 10 to 20 c. c. The bladder of the maleis somewhat more capacious than that of the female. The differentparts of the bladder are designated from their position; thus, the summit 14 ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF THE GENITO-URINARY ORGANS. or apex refers to the upper and more narrow end ; the fundus or base tothe broader lower end, resting on the perinaeum in the male, the vaginain the female. The term fundus has been limited to that part of the lower halfbetween the orifice and the fold of peritongemn, and not covered by peri-tonaeum. There is no anatomical neck. Further, we distinguish an anterior surface which looks also down-ward, a superior surface looking also somewhat backward, an inferiorsurface or base looking also backward, and two lateral surfaces. Onsagittal section the bladder with the urethra forms a Y-shaped figure, theangle of the Y corresponding to the concavity named.
