shadows of the heavy bones at the base ofthe skull will blot out those of the sinuses, and if ahigher point is selected the shadows of the sinuses willbe greatly distorted. Thickening of the mucous mem-brane causes a blurring of the shadow on the affectedside, and the presence of pus, tumor, or granulationtissue renders the sinus so opaque to the ray that adense white shadow is thrown. In the presence ofsymptoms of inflammation of the accessory sinusesrontgenograms are of immense help in locating thesinus involved. The presence or absence of one orboth frontal sinuses may be established by goodrontgenograms. The maxillaey antra may be rontgenographedwith the tube in the same position as for the frontalsinuses, or with the ray directed at a point well belowthe base of the skull. Difference in the opacity of theshadows on the two sides is the point of importancein making a diagnosis.
