A child looks through a Pashto lesson book in the village of Shagowlay, in Ghazni province. The books were given out by Afghan Local Police (ALP) to local children here for use in learning to read and write as part of a radio literacy program being introduced here. ALP complement counterinsurgency efforts by assisting and supporting rural areas with limited Afghan National Security Forces presence, in order to enable conditions for improved security, governance, and development.
