Freesias These delicately fragrant little flowers easily become permanently established in the garden, and they bloom so early in the spring that they are almost classed as winter flowers. They have become increasingly popular in California, particularly since the introduction of the new colored large-flowered types. Rainbow Mixture Rainbow Mixture. This is a special blend of many named colored varieties of Freesias, in- cluding shades of pink, blue, yellow, lavender, red, orange, and violet. No white is included in this mixture, and it is the finest grade of Freesia that can be obtained. 12 for 35c; 25 for 60c; 100 for $2.00. Named Varieties of Freesias Apotheose. A large flowered variety, with lilac-pink blooms, white at the throat. 12 for 40c; 25 for 70c; 100 for $2.35. Pink Beauty. A fine, large-flowered clear pink strain. 12 for 40c; 25 for 70c; 100 for $2.35. Golden Daffodil. This is the famous giant golden yellow variety. 12 for 35c; 25 for 60c; 100 for $2.10. White Chief. Very large white flowers, exceedingly fragrant. The very finest of the white Freesias. 12 for 30c; 25 for 55c; 100 for $1.90. Purity Super flora. An improved type of the old Purity, blooming very early, before any other types; extremely fragrant. Creamy white. 12 for 30c; 25 for 50c; 100 for $1.80. Freesias Armstrong Anemones These poppy-like garden flowers with their bril- liant hues of "blue, rose, crimson and scarlet, grow from 8 to 12 inches high and prefer full sunshine. Planted in masses they are most effective and they make splendid cut flowers to mix with Ranunculus since Ranunculus lack the blue shades and the Anemones lack the yellow shades. Plant any time from October to March. They bloom in early or late spring, depending on when they are planted. Anemone St. Brig-id. This double and semi-double strain was very popular among those who visited the growing fields last summer. Many showy colors are present in the mixture. The blooms are excellent for bright graceful bouquets. 12 for 60c; 2o for $1.15; 100 for $3.90. Monarch de Caen Monarch de Caen. The most famous of all Anem- one strains. The giant long-stemmed, single, saucer- shaped flowers include a great variety of dazzling shades of rose, red, blue, purple and lavender. Our No. 1 grade is our best seller. However, the excep- tionally fine, Jumbo bulbs are well worth the addi- tional amount asked, and the No. 2 bulbs are satis- factory. (Illustrated at right.) Jumbo, 12 for 75c; 25 for $1.35; 100 for $4.70. No. 1, 12 for 45c; 25 for 75c; 100 for $2.60. No. 2, 12 for 25c; 25 for 40c; 100 for $1.35. Red, White and Blue Plant a red, white and blue border of Anemones. The solid masses of color adjoining each other will give a spectacularly beautiful landscape effect. His Excellency. Great 3-inch flowers of vivid, daz- zling scarlet with a silver-white base. One of the showiest of all Anemones. No. 1 bulbs, 12 for 60c; 25 for $1.15; 100 for $3.90. The Bride. We offered this pure white strain for the first time last year. Many of our customers were enthusiastic. Alone or with the reds and blues, they are ideal for cut flower arrangements. 12 for 60c; 25 for $1.15; 100 for $3.90. Blue Poppy. A marvelous selection of white cen- tered identical blue flowers. Outstandingly effective when planted together or with the red His Excel- lency, and the white one. 12 for 60c; 25 for $1.15; 100 for $3.90. Bulbs for Shade In shady locations Scilla campanulata will give you a wealth of early spring bloom. For a back- ground which will provide a continuity of interesting blooms and color use Yellow and White Calla Lilies, Regal Lilies, Tiger Lilies or Sunset Lily. Baby Callas and Terrestrial Orchids will work nicely into a foreground group. Other shade lovers include Bleeding Heart, Grape Hyacinth and the new early fragrant Madonna Lily. The excellent cut flower, Peruvian Lily prefers the shade and plenty of mois- ture. Flame Freesia Tritonia crocata "Prince of Orange". No plant can produce a more vivid spot of color than this small native of South Africa. Brilliant orange heads of dainty Freesia-like flowers are carried on slender 12 to 18 inch stems. It thrives in our Southern California climate where it naturalizes readily.
