WILSON'S SEED CATALOGUE FOR 1889. The True Leamiiig' Corn. In 1880, we introduced to the farmers of the United States The I^eamin^ Corn, one of the earliest, most productive and popular varieties of field com that had ever been cultivated, and is now more generally grown for a main crop than any other kind. So great was the demand for this valuable corn, when its good qualities had once become kno%vTi, that it was impossible to get pure seed to supply the demand. Hence un- principled dealers offered different varieties under the name of Learning. Improved Leaming, etc. By this means the reputa- tion of The Lieaming Corn Avas ver>- much injured, as many planted what they supposed to be Leaming Corn, but which was some old or inferior variety*, and either failed to germinate properly of to make a satisfactory- crop. As we Avere the first to introduce this splendid early corn to the farmers of this country, we have felt a great interest in its success, and have taken esi)ecial pains to keep the seed pure and as near the original Type as possible, and to designate it from other or mixed varieties we call it Wilson's True Learning Corn, which is our trade-mark or name for this variety, and Ave guarantee all seed bought of us to be the genuine and the true article. Wilson's True L.eaming Corn grows to a medium height, not as tall as some kinds. The stalks. Avhich are strong, take a firm hold in the ground and very often bear 2 good ears each, as can be seen in the illus- tration. The ears are from 12 to 14 inches in length, aA'erage from 16 to 20 roAvs of grain, and are noted for being uncommonly Av^ell filled out at the ends. The grains, Avhich are of a dark golden color, are unusually deep, a A-ery small thin, red cob, and the quality, Avhen ground, makes the nicest and richest corn meal imaginable. But the greatest recommendation the True Leaming Corn has is its earliness in ripening and reliability of making a crop on thin soils. On rich and highly manured soils it has repeatedly made over 100 bushels shelled com to the acre. ¥• planting late or replanting, or for planting on ground that is Avanted for Fall seeding, it is the most valuable and profitable variety we knoAv of or haA-e ever tried, as it Avill under almost any circumstances mature a crop in 90 days, and ripen up hard and solid ready.to crib long before any of the dent varieties. The stalks. Avhich are abundantly supplied Avith broad dark green leaves, makes the best fodder Avhen dry. The corn is easy and pleasant to husk, and the ears, being of a rich dark golden color, makes the hand- somest appearance of any corn Ave know of. Of all the A-arieties of field corn we have ever tried, Wilson's True lieamineisthe earliest, hardiest, surest and most profitable kind to plant. Our crop the past season was all that could be desired, being Avell grown, perfectly ripe and dry before frost; pure and first-class in CA'crA- respect. Bv mail, large pkt.. 10c.: lb.. SHc: 4 lbs..
