Precocious in his artistic talent, it took him awhile to move away from the lithographic craft of reproducing other artists’ work. By circa 1890 Lunois did start to translate his own compositions, some of which were first painted, into color lithography. He is today often not well-regarded because of his choice of subject. Having traveled whenever time and finances permitted, many prints have a “touristy” feel. This should not obscure the fact that his lithography is amongst the most accomplished at the time, and since. His painterly style is extremely fine, and he is known to have taught Auguste Clot, who went on to print the lithographs of many impressionists, most everything he knew.
