oduced by the Roentgenianaction upon the cellular elements of the ulceration. But such an interpretation is not in this case admis-sible, because in our case there was no fever, and be-cause the extension of the cutaneous lesion was so ex-tremely limited as to render it improbable that it couldproduce the quantity of toxin necessary to occasion suchserious phenomena. Then, in our case, no other explanation remains ex-cept the following, namely: That the X rays, thoughacting locally upon the ulcer, also indirectly gave a stim-ulus—through the medium of the sensitive nerve termi-nations—that extended so far as the spinal marrow andthe cerebral cortex, wmich already constituted the pointsof least resistance in a neuropathic individual. (2) These forms of radiant ener-gy are valuable in conditions of poor metabohsm in which the secretions of the skin, from any cause, have bee >me inactive, orwhere an active elimination by all theemunctories is indicated, as in Brightsdisease, rheumatism, or gout. (3) In arterio-sclerosis and in other conditions where theheart is working against a condition of higharterial tension, it is indicated in all septicand toxic processes, favoring in a largedegree the elimination of the products of in-fection.
