On account of profuse hemorrhage theentire bladder was packed with gauze. On microscopicexamination the specimen proved to be squamous cellcarcinoma. One week after the operation, X-ray treatment wasbegun. The tube used was Piffards protecting tube withthe smaller sleeve attached. In order to administer thelight directly upon the growth, a large, somewhat stiff,soft rubber drainage tube was cut just long enough toreach to the growth and admit of the projecting end beingslipped over the free end of the sleeve. By this device,the patient being in the dorsal position, the supra-pubicwound was effectively and painlessly held patent. Fenestraewere made in the rubber tube to prevent the urine fromrising within it and a wick of gauze, placed alongside thetube in the incision, drained off the urine as fast as itaccumulated. While
