INFECTIOUS ARTHRITIS. Severe infectious process in shoulder follow-ing erysipelas. Firm fibrous anchylosis, but nodestruction of bone, erosion of cartilage or hyper-trophic process present. When these joint inflammations went on to pusformation, and actual sepsis ensued, articular changesof all sorts occurred. In the vast majority of cases,however, no such acute processes ensued, and the strik-ing characteristic of these chronic joints aside from theirperiarticular and articular swelling, the general consti-tutional disturbance, the frequent glandular involve-ment and the atrophy of disuse was the entire absenceof either the atrophy or hypertrophy of the articularsurfaces proper, which changes formed the basis of thedistinction between the two previous classes.
