One is a flat calm, and the other astrong southeast breeze, which sends a greatrolling sea into the bay, which makes livelytimes for the smaller craft in sailing overthe exposed course. The next port madefor is Mumbles, on the Bristol Channel,where several days racing is given by theBristol Channel Yacht Club ; and then thefleet round Lands End again to Falmouth,where they race for the prizes given bythe Royal Cornwall Yacht Club. Thesematches are immediately followed by theregatta of the Royal Western Club, atPlymouth. There is no prettier course inEnglish waters than the one sailed outthrough old Plymouth Sound. The areawithin the breakwater is close upon twenty-five miles, bounded on the west by therichly-wooded heights of Mount Edge-cumbe, and on the east by Mount Battenand the Wembury cliffs.
