Theagricultural valleys produce deciduous fruits that are pro-nounced the finest that can be raised; alfalfa, cereals andvegetables. The mineral resources which include gold, silver,copper, lead, zinc and turquoise, made the county famous twocenturies ago. The coal deposits are among the best in thesouthwest, the only anthracite coal bed in New Mexico beinglocated here. Clay, lime, marble and sandstone of excellentquality are produced. Superior building stone is quarried near Cerrillos.In southern Santa Fe county is San Pedro, which when thelast census was taken, had 451 people. Here a fine coppersmelter has been erected to treat the ores of the extensiveworkings of the Santa Fe Gold and Copper Company. NearSan Pedro is Golden, a prosperous mining camp of 323 per-sons. Galisteo is an old agricultural settlement in the centerof a sheep and cattle district. Many nice ranches are in thevicinity. The precinct is credited with 736 people.
