ase the lesions usually speedilybecome covered by white, closely adherent scales, at least on theedges. In exceptional cases the primary lesion is a minute whitespot, which spreads rather rapidly to form a typical lesion. Inexceptional instances very small white centers are apparent inthe lesions, these being due to the deposit of calcium salts, thesyphilide cornee of the French authors. As the disease progressesthe individual lesions spread slowly in a peripheral manner andoccasionally clear up in the center. As a general rule the ulti-mate size of the patch is from one to two inches, but occasionallythe whole palm may be involved. The edges are well definedand may show an elevated border. The lesions are of a dull redcolor and are covered by white scales, that sometimes becomedetached at one end so as to resemble splinters.
