The flat muscles of the back are effleuraged by the wholehand on each side, while for the kneading each side is takensingly and the muscle lifted up, grasped, rolled and kneaded,gradually working toward the axilla. For the kneading itwould seem more rational to lift up the soft tissues in foldsparallel to the direction of the muscle fibers instead oftransverse, as we have often seen it done. The rhomboidsand large parts of the trapezius are treated with the erectorspinae. The other parts are treated with the scapularmuscles in the following way: for treatment of the rightscapula the right hand grasps the infraspinous, the lefthand the supraspinous part of the scapula with its muscles.The thumbs are efl(leuraging from the inner edge toward theshoulder while the other fingers support from below and above(Fig. 34).
