KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- STS-106 Pilot Scott D. Altman pauses to talk to a worker after climbing out of a slidewire basket on the 195-foot level of Launch Pad 39B. The basket is part of emergency egress equipment from the pad. Altman and the STS-106 crew are taking part in Terminal Countdown Demonstration Activities (TCDT), which include emergency egress training, opportunities to inspect their mission payload in the orbiter’s payload bay, and a simulated launch countdown. STS-106 is scheduled to launch Sept. 8, 2000, at 8:31 a.m. EDT from Launch Pad 39B. On the 11-day mission, the seven-member crew will perform support tasks on orbit, transfer supplies and prepare the living quarters in the newly arrived Zvezda Service Module. The first long-duration crew, dubbed “Expedition One,” is due to arrive at the Station in late fall KSC-00pp1186

In the white room, an environmental chamber at Launch Pad 39B, Mission Specialist Tamara E. Jernigan (Ph.D.) gets ready to enter the orbiter Discovery. Zusammenfassung
US-Marineinfanteristen verlassen 29 Palmen von einer MV-22 Osprey, die dem Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) nach der Übung Taktik 3 (AST-3) im Rahmen des Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (WTI) 2-17 am 21. April 2017 in 29 Palms, Kalifornien zugewiesen wurde. Bei AST-3 handelt es sich um eine Übung, die sich auf die Durchführung einer kombattationsfreien Evakuierungsaktion (NEO) im städtischen Umfeld konzentriert, während gleichzeitig ausländische humanitäre Hilfe (FHA) für das simulierte Gastland geleistet wird. WTI ist eine siebenwöchige Schulungsveranstaltung, die von Kadern der MAWTS-1 ausgerichtet wird. Sie betont die operative Integration der sechs Funktionen der Marineinfanterie zur Unterstützung einer Marine Air Ground Task Force und bietet standardisierte fortgeschrittene taktische Ausbildung und Zertifizierung von Ausbilderqualifikationen für Einheiten zur Unterstützung von Marine Aviation Training and Readiness sowie Unterstützung bei der Entwicklung und Anwendung von Waffen und Taktiken aus der Luftfahrt.
