1. Sgt. der US-Armee John Therrien (rechts), pensioniert, und Oberstleutnant Jim Buckner, pensioniert, der gemeinsam in Vietnam gedient hat, lachen in der Kompanie D, 1. Bataillon, 5. Kavallerie-Regiment, 1. Kavallerie-Division, am 17. April 2013. Während einer Operation in der Gegend von Bong Son am 13. März 1967 wurde Buckner, damals Kapitän und Kompaniekommandeur, von einem Scharfschützen in der rechten Schläfe erschossen. Therrien, damals Spezialist und Buckners Funker, führte Triage auf Buckners Wunde durch und rief einen Medevac, der sein Leben rettete. Nachdem Buckner aus der Kampfzone ausgeflogen worden war, übernahm Therrien zwei Stunden lang das Kommando über das Unternehmen, bis ein neuer Kommandant eingeflogen werden konnte.
