Tsuba (Japan), 1830–43 (CH 18341375)
Zusammenfassung
This Kenji style tsuba is naga maru (round) in shape and has a gilded mimi kaku koniku (a square rim with slight rounding). The decoration uses maru bori (round surface carving) with nunome kin zogan (an inlay of gold leaf affixed to a serrated ground), and shows byō bu issō (a pair of folding screens) with patterns.
At the center is the nakago-ana, an opening through which the sword passes. Surrounding this is the seppadai, a flat oval area that is migaki (burnished) and rimmed in gold. On either side are ryō-hitsu openings, both of the suhama type, symbolically represents the coastline of Horai, the holy island of the Immortals.
