Two inferences of first importance may be drawn froman examination and comparison of a large number ofsuch specimens : First, that the change of form from palaeolithic toneolithic does not of itself indicate any great advance orany sudden incoming of a new race or introduction ofnew conditions of life ; and, Secondh% that unless other evidence is forthcoming, itis not possible to determine whether unpolished elongateovate implements are finished palasolithic or unfinishedneolithic forms. The occurrence of the elongate cusp-shaped forms—that is, of tapering implements, the sides ofwhich have an inward curve instead of an outward bulge—is generally an indication of the palaeolithic age of thedeposit in which they occur, for that form does notlend itself to development into any neolithic implement.There are
