Der englische Maler und Karikaturist Thomas Rowlandson (13. Juli 1756 - 21. April 1827) war für seine politische Satire und gesellschaftliche Beobachtung bekannt. Als Sohn eines Kaufmanns wurde Rowlandson Student an der Königlichen Akademie. Mit 16 Jahren ging er zum Studium nach Paris. Nachdem er ein Atelier als Porträtmaler eingerichtet hatte, begann er, Karikaturen zu zeichnen, um sein Einkommen aufzubessern, was bald zu seinem Hauptinteresse wurde. Wie andere zeitgenössische Karikaturisten produzierte er Erotik, die in den 1840er Jahren kritisiert wurde. Er schuf komische Bilder bekannter gesellschaftlicher Typen seiner Zeit und schrieb auch satirische Verse unter dem Pseudonym Peter Pindar. Seine Charaktere reichten von lächerlich, prätentiös, riesigen Busen und Po.
