Stuyvesant Fish, of NewYork, son of Governor Hamilton Fish, is emi-nent in banking and railroad circles. Thename is one of the most ancient in the coun-try, and is found among the early settlers ofMassachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecti-cut. John Fish, of Lynn, Massachusetts, re-moved to Sandwich in 1637, where hisbrother Jonathan also lived. The latter movedto Newtown, Long Island, in 1659, and be-came the ancestor of Governor HamiltonFish. Nathaniel Fish also lived at Sandwich,Massachusetts, in 1643. Portsmouth. RhodeIsland, is another early home of the family,for Thomas and John Fish were living therein 1655: and Robert Fish, of Portsmouth,inarricd Mary Hall, in 1686. Gabriel Fishwas living in Boston before 1638. and WilliamFish lived at Windsor. Connecticut, from 1647to 1675. The family is associated with many townsin Maine.
