Ladies and Gentlemen, I can finally die a happy woman. 15 months on Flickr Commons and at last a poster in a Lawrence Collection photo with a clear date! It reads:."14th Great Annual Show.Kilkenny.Thursday, July 23rd 1908.Entries close finally July 6 next"..The poster is in very good condition - not weathered, so can we assume June/July 1908 for this one?..This photo was taken probably by Robert French, chief photographer of William Lawrence Photographic Studios of Dublin...You can compare this view of the Court House at Kilkenny with its companion photo ( nlireland/7935822338 ) taken approximately 82 years later as part of the Lawrence Photographic Project 1990/1991, where one thousand photographs from the Lawrence Collection in the National Library of Ireland were replicated a hundred years later by a team of volunteer photographers, thereby creating a record of the changing face of the selected locations all over Ireland...For further information on the Lawrence Photographic Project, read all about it on our NLI Blog ( 2012/04/13/then-then-and-now-photographic-projects/ ) ...Date: June/July 1908?..NLI Ref.: L_ROY_10050 ( vtls000041910 )
