The Roseate Tern is a periodical visitant in Great Britain,and has been named Sterna Dougalli in compliment to Dr.McDougall, who first noticed the bird on the C umbrayIslands in the Frith of Clyde ; since which it has been foundto breed annually on several parts of our coast. The geographical distribution of the Roseate Tern extendsover many parts of the European continent, but nowherein greater numbers than on the Fern Isles, the Scottishcoast, and the coast of Northumberland; on the Dutchcoast it is sometimes met with in the months of August andSeptember. The localities frequented by the present species, are therocky shelves of the spots before enumerated, where the com-mon tern abounds, and the eggs procured have been foundamong those of that species ; and it seems probable that thebirds in question breed in companies, as those found werein groups of ten to twenty. More than the partialand im-perfe
