Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (1834 - 1919), deutscher Zoologe, Naturforscher, Philosoph, Arzt, Professor, Meeresbiologe und Künstler, der Charles Darwins Werk förderte und populär machte, wurde am 16. Februar 1834 in Potsdam (damals Teil des Königreichs Preußen) geboren. Das veröffentlichte Kunstwerk Haeckels umfasst über 100 detaillierte, mehrfarbige Abbildungen von Tieren und Meereslebewesen, die in seinen Kunstformen der Natur gesammelt wurden.
